How do I join the Seahawks?

Effective February 2017, tryouts and registrations for Dundas Seahawks have been suspended as our roster is full. If you would like more information or would like to be placed on our tryout waitlist, you can contact us by clicking here.

You have to be able to swim 50m without stopping, which is 2 lengths of the Dundas Community Pool. You have to be able to dress and access the pool independently. And you must be able to follow coach’s direction and get along with others in a safe and respectful manner. Safety of our swimmers and coaching staff in and around the pool is of paramount importance.

How long is the season?

Our season runs from the first Wednesday in September until the last Wednesday in May. We take a couple weeks off for Christmas, and there are always cancellations due to scheduling, pool repairs, and bad weather. But for the most part, we swim every week.

How much does it cost?

Our registration fee is $100 per year. This covers all of your practice sessions, as well as a ticket to our dinner/dance banquet at the end of the season. If you plan to attend our area swim meets, we ask for an additional $70 – that’s $10 for each of the seven meets – to help cover pool rental costs for the meets. We expect our swimmers to attend as many meets as possible; if this is an issue, please discuss your concerns with our coaching staff.

What about a ‘uniform’?

We try to provide new uniforms at least every three years. We just purchased a full line of uniform wear for the team in January 2017, so it will be a while before we can afford to do that again. All uniform wear and equipment is to be used or worn ONLY for competition. All swimmers should have a few well-fitting swim suits and equipment for practice. Our team colours are purple and teal.

Where and when do we practice?

We practice every Wednesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Dundas Community Pool at 39 Market Street in Dundas.

What do we do at practice?

Every practice includes instruction for each swimmer to improve their stroke, stamina, and speed. Swimmers are grouped according to their swimability, and coaches work with each group separately. Expect to do anywhere from 25 to 75 laps of various strokes and exercises during the hour long practice, and entry (diving from the edge of the pool) techniques are practiced as well.

When and where are the swim meets?

We compete against a number of area swim clubs between Brampton and Hamilton. Meets usually take place early Sunday mornings, and are spaced every 2-4 weeks throughout the season. Dundas hosts one meet annually, and members and their families are asked to help out with timing, scoring, and shepherding. Information about each meet is provided to swimmers a week or two prior to the meet at practice.

What if I’m not a very good swimmer?

While some of our swimmers are powerful athletes in the pool, many of our swimmers are still learning. As long as you are comfortable in the water, and are willing to work hard, chances are you’ll be a great addition to our team. Give yourself some time to improve before deciding it’s not for you. Swimming is an excellent skill to have, and a great way to keep fit!

What if I’m a really good swimmer?

You’ll be in great company. Many of our swimmers swim at very competitive times. Some of them even have difficulty finding other swimmers to compete with. If you can swim, join us. You’ll love it!!

I’m nervous about joining. Can I just visit and see what I think?

Of course you can visit, attend a practice and just watch. See what you think and decide whether or not you’d like to give it a try. But bring a swim suit and towel just in case – new visitors don’t last very long on the bench; it’s too hard not to join in!!

How can I volunteer to help the team?

We are always looking for more willing volunteers – to coach, manage, pitch in on every level. With more than thirty swimmers, the coaching team has its work cut out for it. Whether you are student, friend, or family member, contact us and tell us how you’d like to help out – we’ll do our level best to fit you in!!

How can I donate to support the team?

Click here to link to our donate page. You can make a donation via our secure PayPal account using a credit or debit card. Or you can make arrangements to send us a cheque or other donation – there’s information there to reach us as well. And – we can’t say it enough – thank you!!

How can we become a corporate sponsor?

We will be more than happy to discuss your ideas in becoming a corporate sponsor. We can certainly let you know about our current needs, and we’re always interested in hearing new enthusiastic ideas from our community. Our members’ incomes and efforts are limited, yet our expenses continue to rise. Participation on our team is so beneficial to our members – physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially – yet the financial obligation remains a hardship for many. Your support on a consistent and reliable basis would be most welcome. Contact us through out contact page – we can’t wait to hear from you!!
